Travelling with a toddler

Omigod! Have you ever agreed to do something with a 2 year old and you knew it was not going to turn out well? Well this is what happened last weekend. We went for a two hour car ride to visit my husband's grandma on Saturday which I am all for. After all, she is 80 something and will not live forever. I totally get it. His cousin was having a graduation ceremony at noon and it would last 2 hours.
Of course, all of the worries did flood to my mind: where, when will she take a nap? When are we going to leave to go home? She does not sleep well in the car anymore-not comfy. The ceremony is right during her nap time. She is not going to sit still for 2 hours.

I put all of my worries aside for the sake of grandma. We drove up there and that was fine. We went to the ceremony and lasted 10 minutes as my daughter would not sit still and I don't blame her. She was talking loudly so we left and took her back to grandma's house. We figured we could give her lunch and then try to get her to take a nap. To make a long story short, we tried in vain for an hour to get her to nap but of course she was in unfamiliar surroundings so I don't blame her for not. Then we notice that she has hives all over her arms! From what-to this day we have no idea! But she is allergic to nuts so everytime she gets hives or a rash we freak out.

We decided to leave at 3:30pm much to grandma's dismay as she only got to see baby for 1/2 an hour but she was exhausted and needed a nap and we did not want to stay up all night.

As soon as we got in the car she cried as she was soooo tired and she could not get comfortable. And one thing you should know about my daughter is that she pukes when she gets upset. The allergist says that is due to her asthma. Anyways, she cried and started choking-her precursor to vomiting. She would fall in and out of sleep every 2o minutes or so and we would remain still in the front seats praying she will not wake up. Her screaming was heart breaking. By the time we made it home she probably slept for a total of an hour and it was 5pm. She did not end up going to bed until 10:30pm! We were exhausted . And this was after her getting so upset and being over tired that she puked huge chunks all over me and I put it in the sink and then ran the water. Yes-I clogged the sink and I stepped in her puke in my bare feet. Fun stuff.......
