I finally dragged myself to go to the doctor's which is quite a chore in itself-I have to take time off work and take the bus-we only have one car..blah blah. My wrist has been bothering me due to workplace strain and I have had something on the bottom of my foot for months.
I thought the foot pain was a piece of glass stuck in there from when my husband and father put up some mirrors in our new home and my husband dropped one of them on the floor and almost sliced his neck open.
Anyways-I was wearing my new crocs-which I love! They are the Malindi style ones. They are dressy enough for work and it was a hot day. My feet were sweaty so I kindly wiped them off with a paper towel in the doc's office while I waited for him for at least half an hour!!! When he finally saw me he looked at my foot and told me that it was a corn!!! I wanted to cry-I am getting old! Here I was thinking it was a piece of glass! He had to get a scalpel and cut it out! It had actually gone pretty deep! I was reading about corns and if you don't get rid of them - bad things can happen like ulcers!
He covered the open wound with a band aid-and then I put my crocs back on and proceeded to walk home. Well, it was really hot that afternoon and I had my heavy work bag with me. It takes me at least 20 minutes to walk home. I made it 10 minutes before my foot was really hurting. I took my shoe off and had a look. My feet were sweating so badly that the band aid had come off and there was blood all over my foot and shoe! EWWWW! I did not have any more band aids and I was still 10 minutes from home. What could I do? I was worried about getting dirt in there and it getting infected.....ALAS, what do I have in my purse? I had a maxi pad! Yes folks....here I was in the middle of the street peeling off the backing to the maxi pad and I stuck it to the bottom of my new crocs. I was so proud of my inventive solution yet horrified at what I had become.
I made it home and then realized about half an hour later that I should take the pad out before my husband comes home to find a bloody maxi pad in my shoe-really-somethings should not be ever shared. I tried to pull it out but it WAS STUCK to my shoe. I could not get it off! I had to put it in the sink and wash it off with water!!! I still have remnants of it there............
